CURRENT TRANSFORMER (CT)

A Current Transformer (CT) is an electrical device used to measure alternating current (AC) in high-voltage systems. It works by producing a secondary current that is proportional to the primary current, allowing safe monitoring and measurement of large currents.

**Operation**: CTs operate on the principle of electromagnetic induction. They consist of a primary winding (which carries the current to be measured) and a secondary winding (which produces a scaled-down current).

**Accuracy**: CTs are designed to provide precise measurements over a specified range, often expressed as a ratio (e.g., 100:5, meaning 100 A in the primary equals 5 A in the secondary).

**Standardization**: CTs are often subject to international standards to ensure reliability and performance, such as ANSI/IEEE and IEC standards.
